Arctic Monkeys are an English Alternative rock band.^[1][2][3] Formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield, the band currently consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (lead guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals), Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals) and John Ashton as a touring member (keyboard, guitar, backing vocals). Former members include Andy Nicholson (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Glyn Jones (lead vocals, guitar).
Their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, released in early 2006, became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Elastica's Elastica^[4] and remains the fastest-selling debut album for a band in the UK.^[5] Since then the band have released two more albums: Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007) and Humbug (2009). The band is currently in the studio, recording their fourth album, expected to be released in 2011.
Arctic Monkeys are heralded as one of the first acts to come to the public attention via the Internet (fan-based sites rather than from the band), with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed.^[6]

Formation and early years (2001-2003)

In 2001, neighbours Alex Turner and Jamie Cook learned how to play the guitar. Later, after the two boys received guitars as Christmas presents,^[7] they formed a band with Turner's schoolmates Andy Nicholson, Macauley Pritchard and Matt Helders.^[8] Nicholson already played bass guitar, so Helders ended up playing drums — "that was all that were left... they all had guitars so I bought a kit after a bit."^[7] According to an interview with Blender magazine, Turner was not the original singer of the band,^[9] but instead, Glyn Jones, another attendee of Stocksbridge High School, used to be the frontman. Jones said that he and Turner "were bored [after our GCSE exams] so we started writing a song about a geek in our year...", and that he left the band because he "did not have the dedication to take it any further... to me we were just a gang of kids messing around because we were bored."^[10] Although reports suggested they named themselves after Helders' uncle's (or even father's) band, Helders later admitted that "so many people asking us that in the UK, so we just started making stories up",^[11] and that he just didn't have the heart to tell the original reporter he'd been lying.^[7]....

They began rehearsing at Yellow Arch Studios in Neepsend,^[12] and played their first gig on 13 June 2003 at The Grapes in Sheffield city-centre.^[13]
After a few performances in 2003 the band began to record demos at 2fly studios in Sheffield, 17 songs were demoed in all and the collection now known as 'Beneath the Boardwalk' and burn them into CDs to give away at gigs, which were promptly file-shared amongst fans. The name 'Beneath the Boardwalk" originated when the first batch of demos were sent around. The first sender, wanting to classify the demos, named them after where he received them, the Boardwalk. Slowly as more demos were spread, they were all classified under this name. This has led to many people falsely believing that 'Beneath the Boardwalk" was an early album, or that the early demos were all released under this heading. The group did not mind the distribution, saying "we never made those demos to make money or anything. We were giving them away free anyway — that was a better way for people to hear them. And it made the gigs better, because people knew the words and came and sang along.",^[11] admitting that they did not even know how to get their songs onto the Internet.^[11] When asked about the popularity of the band's MySpace site in an interview with Prefix Magazine, the band said that they were unaware what it was, and that the site had originally been created by their fans. "[When we went number one in England] we were on the news and radio about how MySpace has helped us. But that's just the perfect example of someone who doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about. We actually had no idea what it was."^[11]

KEMUNCULAN Phobia Phoney dilihat sebagai satu hadiah untuk peminat yang sekian lama menunggu album sulung Bunkface.
 

MEMUATKAN 10 buah lagu, akhirnya, album sulung Bunkface berjudul Phobia Phoney muncul juga di pasaran. Sekian lama dinantikan oleh peminatnya, Phobia Phoney menyerlahkan hasil usaha mereka sendiri apabila diterbitkan menerusi produksi Bunkface Production.
Turut sama mengeluarkan duit poket termasuk dibantu ahli keluarga, kelahiran Phobia Phoney menjadi pasport untuk Bunkface berkongsi pengalaman hidup mereka bersama pendengar sejak kumpulan itu ditubuhkan pada 2005.
Lagu-lagu yang dimuatkan adalah Bunk Anthem, Prom Queen, Revolusi, Soldier, Escape Dance, Dunia, Extravaganza, Situasi, You & Me serta Minute To The End.
Kata Sam selaku vokalis Bunkface, Phobia Phoney merupakan perlambangan mengenai Bunkface yang pada awalnya agak kurang bersedia dan fobia untuk muncul dengan album pertama.
Dengan persaingan yang dilihat semakin kuat, Bunkface jelasnya, bertemu jawapan pasti yang mana mereka perlu tampil menerbitkan album sebagai memecahkan rasa fobia terhadap apa jua yang diperkata orang terhadap Phobia Phoney nanti.
"Phobia Phoney merupakan kisah kami sepanjang meniti perjalanan di lapangan muzik tempatan. Segala pengalaman pahit manis diluahkan dalam album ini.
"Tidak kurang, Phobia Phoney menyelitkan kisah cinta serta nilai-nilai murni,'' ujar Sam atau nama sebenarnya Shamsul Annuar Mohd. Baharom tatkala ditemui di majlis pelancaran Phobia Phoney di Hard Rock Cafe di ibu negara baru-baru ini.
Selain Sam, anggota Bunkface yang lain adalah Ahmad Farhan Hashim atau Paan selaku pemain gitar utama dan Mohd. Farouk Jaafar yang mesra dipanggil Youk (bass/vokal latar).
Menyusuri perjalanan Bunkface, ia bermula sekadar sesi jamming biasa antara tiga rakan sekolah ini yang kemudiannya bertukar menjadi kumpulan muzik.
Bunkface mula mendapat perhatian ramai sekitar 2006 melalui penyertaan mereka di rancangan televisyen popular, Blastoff 3.
Pencapaian awal Bunkface adalah ketika memenangi tempat pertama dalam pertandingan Battle Of Bands pada Mac di tahun yang sama.
Ia telah membuka pintu untuk Bunkface melangkah ke bidang muzik arus perdana biarpun bergerak secara sendiri.
Pada Disember 2007, Bunkface mengeluarkan EP mereka yang pertama berjudul Lesson Of The Season namun lebih popular dengan lagu Silly Lilly.
Single berbahasa Melayu yang pertama mereka iaitu Situasi mula melonjakkan lagi populariti mereka sehingga terpilih ke final Anugerah Juara Lagu 2009 dan mengungguli Shout Awards.
Menurut Sam, Phobia Phoney dihasilkan dengan bajet RM15,000 dan Bunkface akan menumpukan pasaran tempatan terlebih dahulu sebelum meneroka pasaran luar.
"Untuk pasaran awal, sebanyak 2,000 salinan dikeluarkan dan kami sendiri bertindak mengedarkan album ini,'' katanya.
Kami masih baru - Youk
Sementara itu, Youk yang ditanya mengenai peristiwa lalu apabila Bunkface dilabel sebagai tidak mesra media berkata, kumpulan itu kini secara perlahan mula berubah untuk mewujudkan situasi menang-menang dengan pihak media.
Sedar akan apa yang dilalui, jelas Youk, Bunkface masih baru dan sebelum ini agak kabur dalam selok belok arus perdana.
"Kami baru hendak belajar. Apa yang penting, kami perlu berfikiran positif. Antara media dan Bunkface perlu saling hormat-menghormati.
"Tapi, sekarang kami sudah okey,'' katanya sambil melahirkan rasa bangga atas kelahiran Phobia Phoney.
Ditanya mengenai Phobia Phoney, Youk memberitahu, dia masih belum mencapai kepuasan maksimum.
"Kami sebenarnya masih mencari identiti. Album ini ada konsepnya yang tersendiri tetapi seperti biasa, kami mahu sesuatu yang menampakkan kematangan.
"Ini album pertama. Harap-harap kami akan dapat menguatkan lagi identiti dan konsep Bunkface,'' ujarnya.
Menurut Youk, bagi menguatkan lagi pasaran Phobia Phoney, Bunkface merancang untuk mengadakan siri jelajah promosi di seluruh negara tidak lama lagi.
Bunkface juga, jelasnya, akan terbang ke United Kingdom (UK) sekitar Jun atas jemputan mengadakan persembahan sempena Breakout Festival yang pernah diadakan di Maldives, tahun lalu.
"Peluang ke UK akan kami gunakan sepenuhnya dalam usaha menapakkan nama Bunkface di pentas antarabangsa,'' bicara Youk yang lebih selesa meluahkan cerita mengenai kerjaya berbanding soal peribadi.
Saingan dalam AIM
Tentang Anugerah Industri Muzik Ke-17 (AIM17) yang bakal berlangsung 2 Mei ini, Youk dengan nada rendah diri berkata, Bunkface terharu kerana tercalon dalam tiga kategori.
Kategori berkenaan adalah Artis Baru Terbaik, Lagu Rock Terbaik (Situasi) dan Lagu Inggeris Terbaik (Prom Queen).
Untuk kategori Artis Baru Terbaik, Bunkface akan ditentang hebat oleh Azlan & The Typewriter, Prema Yin, Tomok dan Yuna.
"Kami tidak mengharapkan kemenangan. Biarlah juri menentukan segalanya. Tetapi, saingan kami dalam AIM17 cukup sengit,'' tambahnya...

''Asal Usul kUmpulan KristaL''

Kumpulan Kristal ini ditubuhkan hasil usaha bapa kepada Rody (gitaris utama) yang mula-mula mengetengahkan bakat ahli kumpulan Kristal dengan menghantar demo kepada Awie yang kemudiannya melihat sendiri Kristal membuat persembahan.
Pada tahun 1999, Kristal mula muncul dengan album pertama bertajuk 'Semut & Lebah'. Album ini berjaya mempopularkan Kristal menerusi lagu 'Seragam Hitam' & 'Ku Membisu'. Tahun 2002, Kristal sekali lagi berjaya menarik perhatian pendengar dengan lagu 'Delaila' & 'Resam Pak Belalang' menerusi album 'Pak Belalang' .
Setelah keluar dengan 'Semut & Lebah' serta 'Pak Belalang', Kristal muncul dengan organisma yang lebih berbahaya iaitu 'N.T Virus'. Album 'N.T Virus' ini mula berada dipasaran pada bulan April 2004. Terdapat 10 lagu dimuatkan dalam album ini termasuk 'Keindahan Pantai' yang pernah dipopularkan oleh arwah M. Shariff & The Zurah.
'N.T Virus' yang dijadikan tajuk album merupakan metafora bagi menggambarkan pendirian Kristal yang menentang segala pengaruh buruk & merosakkan dalam bidang seni & kehidupan. Sebuah lagu berjudul 'Virus' ciptaan Joe Wings turut dimuatkan dalam album N.T Virus ini.
Pada tahun 2006, Kristal telah mengeluarkan satu lagi album baru yang bertajuk 'Analogi'. Album ini memuatkan 10 buah lagu termasuk 1 lagu lama, Zunika (dipopularkan oleh A. Romzi) yang diberi nafas baru.
Line up asal Kristal ni terdiri dari Razlan (penyanyi), Rody (gitar utama), Izal (bes), Bob (gitar kedua) dan Ainul (dram). Namun disebabkan Ainul dan Bob ada komitmen lain maka tempat Ainul digantikan oleh Joe (dram). Tetapi disebabkan Joe pula ada komitmen yang lain. Maka Kristal sekali lagi kehilangan pemain dram. Maka tempat Joe digantikan oleh Acap (adik kepada Rody).
